Agile Awareness Training

Course description:
This Agile course delivers a strong introduction into Agile and the Agile way of working in just a single day. The course focusses on the concept of ‘agility’ in an environment that is known for its increasing complexity and scalability. De participants will discover and experience the power of Agile in delivering customer value through iterative steps. In order to achieve this new mind set, the philosophy behind Agile is discussed and case studies, demonstrating the value of Agile, are presented. The value of the Agile way of working lies in the continuous learning of both the customer and the development team and thus continuously improving in the delivery of customer value. The roles of both customer en supplier are discussed intensively. The value of delivering in short-cycles, direct feedback loops and fixed deliver timeframes relating to predictability are explained.

Learning Objectives:
After this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the strengths, philosophy and background of Agile and the Agile principles
  • Distinguish the different concepts: Lean, Agile, Scrum and XP
  • Use the correct criteria to determine an appropriate ‘Definition of Ready’ and ‘Definition of Done’
  • Understand the importance of creating a fixed rhythm (heart beat) for delivering improvements and the importance of stable teams

Course Approach:
The course is delivered in a single day and consists of two parts. It comprehends theory, but most of all practice. Case studies, exercises and discussions with other professionals are at the heart of this course.

The first part of the course consists of the following

  • The philosophy behind Agile
  • Roles between Business and IT
  • The most important mind shift
  • Exploration of Agile methods Scrum and DSDM Atern
  • Agile Roles (Business Sponsor, Business Visionary, Scrum Master, Product Owner, etc.)
  • Project Management

The second part is about using and executing Agile. Participants experience the Agile theory using challenging en pragmatic exercises and a simulation game. The impact of short cycle iterative and incremental development is made clear.

Reference material:
The Agile Manifesto on agilemanifesto.org Scrum, DSDM Atern and XP are examples of practical methods to start with an Agile way of working and provide rules and requirements for processes, roles and documentation for succesful implementation of Agile.

Prerequisites:
No prerequisites are required, although a basic knowledge of IT and software development terminology is preferred.
